PERKINSTON — No. 1 Mississippi Gulf Coast is headed back next week to a course where the Bulldogs golf team has had a lot of success.

The Bulldogs will be playing in the GlenLakes Invitational in Foley, Ala., where they mounted a comeback to win the event last year. It’s the same course where they won the 2019 NJCAA championship.

“It’s a really good course,” Gulf Coast coach Brad Thornton said, “and we’ve had a lot of good memories take place there.”

The tournament, which is being hosted by Andrew College, features an array of NJCAA Division I schools, including sixth-ranked Central Alabama. There are also teams from Florida and the Midwest making the trip. Sixteen teams will be competing.

The 54-hole event is being played at the GlenLakes Golf Club in Foley, Ala. The teams will play two rounds Monday followed by the final round on Tuesday.

Gulf Coast’s five-person team will be Will Burnham (So., Jackson/Jackson Prep), Andrew Zielinski (So., Ocean Springs/Ocean Springs), John Mark Mills (Fr., Pontotoc/Mike Bender Golf Academy), Stanley Campbell (Fr., London, England/Essex Golf College) and Jackson Wise (So., Pontotoc/North Pontotoc).

The Bulldogs have won six straight tournaments, and this will be the last non-conference event before the final two MACCC regular-season tournaments in the following two weeks.

“We’ve had a really great last two weeks preparing during this middle-of-the-semester break we had,” Thornton said. “I’m really excited to field the team we have going over there.”
