PERKINSTON — No. 12 Mississippi Gulf Coast stayed unbeaten in the 2024 women’s tennis season by shooting past No. 16 Copiah-Lincoln on Friday.
The Bulldogs won 7-2 at the MGCCC Tennis Complex to move to 4-0 overall and in the MACCC.
“They looked good,” Gulf Coast coach Sam Blackburn said. “We didn’t win at No. 1 doubles, but 2 and 3 looked really solid. We only dropped one singles match, and our depth was shown.”
Gulf Coast dominated at Nos. 3, 4, 5 and 6 singles to close out the win.
Angela Moreno (So., Sevilla, Spain/IES V Centenario) also bounced back from dropping her doubles match to get a key win at No. 1 singles. She won 6-3, 6-1.
“She has had a couple losses lately, but she stepped up and played a really solid match against a solid player,” Blackburn said. “She played really good, error-free tennis. That was really good to see from her. I think she’ll keep playing well as the season goes on.”
Co-Lin took its first loss, falling to 5-1, 2-1 MACCC.
Gulf Coast turns right around and plays Wallace State at the MGCCC Tennis Complex on Saturday. First serves are at 1 p.m.
