POPLARVILLE, Miss. — A stellar week in the pitcher’s circle has earned No. 2 Pearl River’s Lainee Bailey an MACCC Pitcher of the Week selection.
The award is Bailey’s second of the season, as she earned MACCC Player of the Week earlier this season for her dominance as a batter.
Bailey appeared in a pair of ranked matchups last week, pitching against NJCAA DI No. 16 Chipola College and then against No. 11 Northeast. She threw 5 1/3 innings against Chipola College, allowing just one earned run while striking out 12 batters. She followed it up by throwing all nine innings in an extra-inning victory against Northeast. She allowed just three runs in the game and struck out 10 batters.
For the week, she threw 14 1/3 innings and held a 1.95 ERA while striking out 22 batters against just three walks.
Bailey has been unreal for the Wildcats this season. The Southeastern Louisiana transfer has appeared in 11 games and holds a 9-1 record. Across 71 innings pitched, she holds a 1.68 ERA with 99 strikeouts. She also has a stellar .89 WHIP. She’s also got it done at the plate, hitting .419 on the year with 11 doubles, six homers, and two triples. She has driven in 23 runs and walked 15 times.
Bailey currently ranks third in the country with 99 strikeouts.
