The Biloxi High basketball teams swept D’Iberville on the court Friday night in Biloxi, with both the girls and boys securing important district victories.
The Lady Indians (11-1) prevailed 38-23 and the Indians (6-3) won their third straight game with a 43-40 victory.
The Biloxi girls pulled away in the second half to come away with their decisive win.
The first quarter ended in a 7-7 tie, but Biloxi gained momentum in the second, leading 19-12 at halftime.
The Lady Indians extended their lead, outscoring the Lady Warriors 9-3 in the third quarter. Biloxi maintained control in the fourth quarter, closing the game out to win comfortably.
Junior guard Aubrey Hill led Biloxi with 11 points while freshman forward Zaniya Johnson contributed 10 points and 12 rebounds. Amari Merideth added nine points for Biloxi.
D’Iberville’s Teelea Wells and Amiyah Simpkins each scored seven points.
The Biloxi girls will face another district battle on the road against Harrison Central in their next game. D’Iberville (6-6) looks to regroup at home against Ocean Springs.
In the boys game, Biloxi secured a hard-fought victory.
Biloxi dominated the first quarter with a 19-5 lead, but D’Iberville mounted a comeback in the second quarter, narrowing the gap to 26-20 at halftime.
The Warriors took this momentum into the second half, outscoring the Indians 20-17, but Biloxi’s early lead proved too much.
Senior Reggie Conner played a pivotal role for Biloxi, contributing 16 points, with seven in the opening quarter and another crucial seven in the final quarter.
For D’Iberville, Jhylonce Holden led with 11 points while Javonte Carter and Jaylen Johnson added nine points each.
Biloxi faces back-to-back road challenges against Pass Christian and a district matchup with Harrison Central. D’Iberville (5-6) looks to bounce back at home against Ocean Springs in its next district matchup.
