On a gloomy Friday, two nights after Hurricane Francine, the Pass Christian Pirates beat the Pearl River Central Blue Devils 41-28 in their home opener at Francis McDonald Stadium.
The Pirates (2-1) gained 499 yards against the Blue Devils (0-3) and won their second consecutive game.
“Very proud of the effort our team showed,” said Pass Christian coach Jeff Stockstill. “We battled through some adversity along with a couple of injuries. Each time, we had guys step up and continue to play hard for the team.”
The Pirates withstood an onslaught from the Blue Devils. The game was tied at 21 at halftime but Pass Christian outscored PRC 20-7 in the second half to secure the victory.
Pass Christian outstretched the field behind quarterback Paris Trivillion, who threw for 352 yards and five touchdowns.
Favorite targets Matthew Daniely and Perry Williams III combined for nine receptions and four touchdowns.
Lathan Lewis finished with three catches for 32 yards and a touchdown.
Pass Christian was not one-dimensional, though, as 2023 All-Region running back Jacquez Alexander had 15 carries for 74 yards and a touchdown.
Pass Christian will host St. Stanislaus next week in the 49th Battle for the Bridge. SSC will seek revenge for a 24-20 loss in Bay St. Louis last year.
