MONTICELLO, Ark. — The Pearl River rodeo team continued its hot pace at the Arkansas-Monticello rodeo as the men’s team earned 185 points to take seventh place, and the women’s team earned 180 to snatch third.

Sydney Poole (Robertsdale, Ala.) was PRCC’s best finisher of the weekend, succeeding in barrel racing. She earned a spot in the short-go round following a third-place finish in the first round with a time of 13.46 seconds. She followed it up with another third-place finish in the short go with a time of 13.57. She finished with a combined time of 27.03 seconds to take second overall.

Emma Watts (St. Stephens, Ala.) registered a time of 3.2 seconds in breakaway roping to earn her spot in the championship round. She then turned in a 5.1 to finish in fifth place overall.

It was an uncharacteristic rodeo for Kate Eiland (Kentwood, La.). Although she grabbed first place in the opening round of goat tying for 60 points, she couldn’t register a time in the short go.

Pearl River excelled in team roping on the men’s side of the competition. Cole Lansford (Fayetteville, Ala.) and Cayden Roland (Fayetteville, Ala.) registered a time of 9.2 seconds in the first round to advance to the championship round. A time of 16 seconds increased their total to 25.2 to finish tied for third. They collected 65 points.

Blake Lyons (Ethel, La.) and West Alabama’s Clarke Gordon opened up the weekend with a 12.2-second run and followed it with a 14.9 in the short go to earn fourth place. The duo earned 50 points.

Trevor Delee (Saint Francisville, La.) and Jake White (Albany, La.) snatched third place in the opening round to advance to the championship round but couldn’t register a time. They still earned 50 points.

On the weekend, Evan Bourdon (Sheridan, Ind.) advanced to the championship round in two categories. His 10.7 seconds in the first round of steer wrestling allowed him to advance, but he couldn’t register a time in his follow-up ride. In calf roping, he snatched a time of 12.9 seconds in the first round but also couldn’t register a time in the short-go round.
