POPLARVILLE, Miss. — The awards have flown in all year for Pearl River softball’s Natalie Herrington (Petal), and the sophomore gets to add another incredible honor to cap off a successful career. The National Junior College Athletic Association announced Tuesday that the Southern Miss signee earned a Second Team All-America selection.
“An honor like NJCAA All-America just solidifies everything that we already know about Natalie,” head coach Christie Meeks said. “Natalie is special. She has the grit, the talent and the perseverance. I am honored to have had the opportunity to coach her. This is the greatest honor, and she truly earned it.”
Herrington earns the award after already being named MACCC Pitcher of the Year, First Team All-MACCC and All-Region 23.
It was going to be hard for Herrington to outdo her freshman season, but she did just that. She ended her sophomore campaign with an incredible 1.69 ERA through 169 1/3 innings pitched. She made appearances in 31 games, picking up a 20-4 record and one save along the way. She pitched an unreal 19 complete games throughout the year, striking out 184 batters against 44 walks. She easily limited the traffic on the basepaths, pitching her way to a 0.94 WHIP. She also registered 7.61 strikeouts per seven innings pitched.
