PEARL — As one might have imagined, after winning back-to-back Class 5A state championships on the diamond the East Central Hornets dominated that classifications all-state teams.

Veteran head coach Bo Long’s Hornets placed more players on the first team, four, than any other school in the state. East Central also had one player named to the second team.

But that wasn’t all the recognition for squads in the “Southern Six” concerning all-state status, as a dozen players from this area were honored.

Long was named the Class 5A “Coach of the Year”, and standout senior and Southern Miss. signee T.J. Dunsford was selected as “Player of the Year”. Joining Dunsford on the Class 5A First Team All-State squad was his East Central teammates Carson Ryder, Brandt Dickerson and Logan Terry.

In addition, Gautier’s Kaden Irving and Caleb Dyess of Pearl River Central were named Class 5A First Team All-State also.

Seven players from the “Southern Six” were selected Class 5A Second Team All-State. That group included East Central’s Nate Trochessett as well as Hunter Parker from Vancleave, Jacob Johnson of Pearl River Central, Picayunes’ Kyler King, Gage Reeves of George County, Brady Robertson of Picayune and George County’s Ben Davis.
