Ocean Springs began Region 7-6A play against D’Iberville a bit slow early last week.
But thanks to a pair of wins over the Warriors over the weekend, the Greyhounds suddenly find themselves alone in first place in the league race under first-year head coach Tommy Walker.
Ocean Springs went on the road Friday night and whacked the Warriors 10-0 before returning home and sliding past DHS 7-4 on Saturday to move to 2-1 in region play.
In the latest win, versatile two-way standout Will Gray paced OSHS at the plate with a pair of hits and he scored two runs in the winning effort. Gray also served as one of the Greyhound’s top running backs and a defensive back last season on the football field.

The Greyhounds managed just five total hits in the outing, while Jack Jordan, Maddox Moreland, McCarty English, Grant Russell and Tanner Beaucez each produced an RBI apiece for OSHS.
Trey Jacquet had a pair of hits and drove in a run for DHS, which fell to 1-2 in league play, while Cannon Wilson drove in a pair of runs for the Warriors with a hit and London Admas ripped a double.
J.P. Ford picked up the win for OSHS, while Griffin Frye and Jordan threw in relief.
Nick Hamby took the loss for the Warriors.

On Friday night, the Greyhounds picked up their first region win of the year by 10-run ruling DHS in four frames.
Gray, Ford and Beaugez each drove in a pair of runs apiece for OSHS in the winning attack. Brock Cantrell contributed a double at the plate, but more importantly, he hurled a five-inning no-hit shutout on the hill to earn the pitching win striking out eight in the solid outing.
Aiden Bellman took the loss for DHS.
Up next in Region 7-6A action, it’s Ocean Springs headed to Pascagoula to begin a three-game series Tuesday night while St. Martin heads to D’Iberville to do the same that night as well.
Both the Panthers and the Yellow Jackets had their third and final game of that region opening series stopped Saturday afternoon due to a weather delay. Pascagoula and home-standing SMHS were deadlocked at 3-3 in the fourth frame when the delay came and the contest was postponed to be finished at a later date.
At this point, the game is slated to be completed at some point during the last week of the regular season.
Both teams are tied at 1-1 in region play after Pascagoula took a 4-2 road win on Tuesday before the Yellow Jackets bounced back with an impressive 13-1 road win themselves on Friday night.
