And the beat goes on.
Or, if you’re part of the baseball team at Resurrection, the more appropriate phrase might actually be “and the streak goes on”.
The Eagles won their sixth consecutive Region 8-1A championship Friday night, completing a two-game sweep of Richton with a 13-3 win Friday night at Lee Tingle Field. Coupled with a 7-2 RCS win in Richton Tuesday night, the defending Class 1A state champion Eagles have now won an almost incomprehensible 36 straight region games as well as 41 out of their past 42 league contests.
In the latest win, RCS jumped out to a quick 3-0 lead in the first frame and then ended the game early by adding on six runs in the third inning and four more in the fourth. The game was called after the Rebels went scoreless in the top of the fifth frame.

The Eagles spread out 11 hits in the win, with Nicholas Watts leading the way with a game-high three hits, including a two-run double, and he collected a pair of RBIs as well. Levi Foshee cracked a three-run double, while Cole Tingle chipped in a pair of huts and drove in a run also. Walker Frederic and Luke Schnoor each added a two-run single apiece to the winning attack.
Tingle went the five-inning distance on the hill to pick up the win, striking out six and allowing seven hits and all three Rebel runs.

In game one of the series, on Tuesday night, RCS followed the same scoring path but just not to the same extent. The Eagles again jumped out to a quick 3-0 lead after the first inning, and added three more runs in the top of the third to take a commanding 6-0 advantage.
Frederic had a season high four hits in the win for RCS, including a pair of triples and a double, and he drove in a game-high three runs with those hits. Max Askew belted a two-run double, and Schnoor also had an RBI.
Foshee started and worked into the sixth to earn the win, giving up three hits, two runs and striking out six.
The Eagles, under the direction of interim head coach Aron Federic, will host D’Iberville Tuesday night in a game that was recently added to the schedule. Resurrection’s game with St. Patrick which was scheduled for Saturday was canceled due to rain. The contest against DHS will be the sixth game this season against five different opponents in which the Class 1A RCS squad has faced a Class 6A opponent from the “Southern Six”. Resurrection has beaten St. Martin and Harrison Central and lost to Biloxi, Petal and HCHS as well. The Eagles have also played a pair of Class 5A schools on the diamond this year in Hattiesburg and Gautier.
