There have been numerous postponements in both prep basketball ad prep soccer for Tuesday’s action as well as some cancellations of other hoops games in the “Southern Six”. We will try and keep you updated on our social media site on both our Facebook page as well as our Twitter account of all of that activity.

The Starting 5 in the Southern 6

Week four of our “Starting 5 in the Southern 6” presented by 228 Sports.com returns and will once again each week throughout the rest of the prep basketball season highlight five individual performances from the following week as well as five upcoming games this week in our area to keep an eye on. You readers can help us out by sending us stats on your favorite players from the previous weeks’ games on our “228 Sports” Facebook page as well as at “228Sports” on Twitter. We will consider all of those recommendations as we choose our “Starting 5 in the Southern 6” each week.

Players:

  1. Marlin Odom, George County: In Hurley, the visiting Rebels stopped home-standing East Central Friday night 59-34 as GCHS moved to 4-0 in Region 8-5A play. Odom tallied a game-high 17 points to lead the Rebels, with 12 of those coming in the second half.
  2.  Josh Holmes, Picayune: The Maroon Tide moved to 4-0 in the region race with a 67-32 thumping of home-standing PRC as Holmes poured in a game-high 29 points for Picayune, including seven 3-pointers. The Picayune boys are 11-14 overall and have won six straight games.
  3.  Micah Jones, Ocean Springs: The Greyhounds are coming off two big Region 7-6A wins last week, including a big 74-71 overtime win over Pascagoula as Elijah Isom nailed a 3-pointer at the buzzer for the win that handed the Panthers their first league loss of the year. Ocean Springs got a game-high 24 points from Jones in that win.
  4. Teeale Wells, D’Iberville : The Lady Warriors remained solidly atop the Region 7-6A standings with a 58-50 win over Pascagoula Friday night. The DHS girls moved to an impressive 19-5 overall and a perfect 5-0 in league play with the win and have already secured the top seed in the upcoming region tourney with one more game in the loop left to play left in the regular season. Wells led the Lady Warriors with 19 points, including scoring 12 of D’Iberville’s 16 points in the fourth quarter to seal the win.
  5. Bethany Graves, Pascagoula: In that aforementioned loss by the Lady Panthers to D’Iberville, Graves tallied a game-high 21 points to pace Pascagoula, as the Lady Panthers dropped to 1-4 in region action. Graves also tallied 17 points in a close 55-52 loss to Ocean Springs earlier in the week on Tuesday in a game where she shared team-high scoring honors with Amiyah Hedrick.
