Having won just three of the previous 10 meetings and none in the past 25 years, the Gulfport Admirals continued their struggles on Friday against the Brandon Bulldogs in the 11th game in the series.
The Admirals (3-2) were handed a 42-0 loss by the Bulldogs (4-1) at Milner Stadium, marking the first time they have been shut out since Oct. 9, 2020.
Seeking revenge for last year’s 35-20 defeat in Brandon, Gulfport fell behind 21-0 in the first half.
Despite receiving the ball to start the second half, Gulfport failed to capitalize as the Bulldogs added three more touchdowns for a 42-0 lead.
The Admirals were plagued by three turnovers and three failed conversions on downs. Gulfport quarterback Dane Sullivan, coming off a strong performance in last week’s 41-21 victory over Picayune, completing 14-of-28 passes for 97 yards and throwing two interceptions—one of which was returned 70 yards for a Brandon touchdown late in the third quarter.
Gulfport running backs Cooper Crosby and Dakoreyan Payton provided 151 yards on 27 touches, but the Admirals were unable to convert any red zone opportunities.
Shack and Jacob Chancellor combined to complete 18-of-22 passes for 246 yards and three touchdowns and the offense totaled 373 yards.
Gulfport defensive end Christian Hughes had one sack and linebacker Andre Peters III led the team with eight tackles.
Gulfport will be off the first week of October before playing at Biloxi on Thursday, Oct. 10.
In the oldest rivalry on the Mississippi Gulf Coast, Gulfport will meet Biloxi for the 102nd time, leading the series 62-35-4. Not counting the pandemic year of 2020, when Biloxi won 7-6 against Gulfport, the Admirals have not lost to the Indians since a 20-17 road defeat in 2011.
