Buckley, Parnell named Bulldogs of the Week

PERKINSTON — Tytiana Buckley and Keilon Parnell have been named Bulldogs of the Week for Feb. 26-March 3.

Buckley, a sophomore guard from Meridian, narrowly missed a triple-double in Gulf Coast’s 93-47 win at Meridian. She had 23 points on 9-of-15 shooting with 16 rebounds. Buckley made 4-of-6 from behind the arc and had eight assists. It was the only game of the week for the Bulldogs.

Parnell, a freshman outfielder from Pascagoula, batted .583 with two doubles in a 2-2 week for Gulf Coast. He had two hits and an RBI in a 6-5 loss in 11 innings at No. 3 Pearl River and went 3-for-4 in a 13-7 win over No. 4 Lansing. He doubled in a loss to Jones and a win over Illinois Central.

Also nominated:

Aleah Beaugez, a freshman shortstop from D’Iberville, batted .538 and slugged her first collegiate homer during a 5-1 week for Gulf Coast. She went 3-for-4 with a homer, a double and three RBI in an 11-3 win over Central Alabama.

Adrian Byrd, a sophomore from Wiggins, struck out nine batters in nine innings during two relief appearances for Gulf Coast. He went 6.2 innings in a 6-5 loss at No. 3 Pearl River, allowing just four hits and two runs. He struck out six in 2.1 innings of work to pick up a 13-7 win over Illinois Central.

Jett Harrell, a sophomore from Clarksdale, went 1-0 with a save in four appearances for Gulf Coast. She struck out six in seven innings of work, allowing five hits.

Omarion Smith, a sophomore forward from Atlanta, Ga., scored 19 points in just 22 minutes during Gulf Coast’s 80-69 win at Meridian. He made 8-of-12 shots from the field, including his only 3-pointer. He also had two rebounds, two assists and two steals. It was the Bulldogs’ only game of the week.
