Bulldogs fight for playoff spot Wednesday

PERKINSTON — Mississippi Gulf Coast is in a battle for the final spots to qualify for the region tournament heading into the final two doubleheaders of the MACCC baseball season.

The Bulldogs will entertain Meridian on Wednesday. First pitch at Ken “Curly” Farris Field is set for 3 p.m. Buy your tickets ahead of time to save money. It costs $7 for adults or $5 for youth online, or $10 and $7 at the gate. Tickets are available at http://mgcccbulldogs.com/tickets, and the game will be streamed at https://mgcccbulldogs.com/watch.

The top nine teams from the MACCC qualify for the NJCAA Region 23 Tournament. Gulf Coast is tied with Hinds for eighth, with Northeast Mississippi a game back. The Bulldogs close the regular season Saturday against NEMCC. 

Records

  • MGCCC: 25-19/11-13 MACCC, T-8th place in conference
  • Meridian: 29-17/14-10 MACCC, 5th place in conference

Last Time Out

  • MGCCC lost a doubleheader to Northwest Mississippi at Senatobia on Friday, falling 17-11 and 11-2.
  • Meridian split a doubleheader against Northeast Mississippi in Meridian on Friday, winning 6-4 and losing 13-6.

Previous Meeting

On April 25, 2023, Meridian swept a doubleheader at Meridian, winning 9-8 and 14-6.

Notes

  • Marc Stephens (So., Orange Beach, Ala./Gulf Shores) is 13th in the NJCAA in hitting (.450), which leads the MACCC, and 14th with 67 hits (4th MACCC). He’s second in the conference with a .554 on-base percentage.
  • Dom Jackson (Fr., Gulf Breeze, Fla./Gulf Breeze) is 13th in the country with 12 home runs (2nd MACCC). He’s second in the conference with 12 home runs, third in slugging (.723) and seventh in RBI (51).
  • Brandon Cain (So., Mobile, Ala./Baker) is fourth in the MACCC with four triples.
  • Charlie Keller (So., Mobile, Ala./Mobile Christian) is eight in the MACCC with 13 hit-by-pitches.
