No. 14 Mississippi Gulf Coast picked up another victory Wednesday at the NJCAA Division I Men’s Tennis Championship in Plano, Texas.

The Bulldogs finished Day 3 in 13th place, one spot behind MACCC-rival Jones.

John Thomas Frank (So., Eupora/Eupora) and Hiram Havard (So., Vancleave/Vancleave) beat Wallace State’s Juan Amor and Brett Foster 8-5 to advance to the consolation bracket No. 3 doubles semifinals on Thursday morning.

“They played well,” Gulf Coast coach Sam Blackburn said. “They didn’t get to play Tuesday, so they had to come back after not playing much. They started out a little slow. The really turned it on midway through the match. They only lost a few points after that. I’m proud of the way they finished and happy they could get through to the semifinals.”

Gulf Coast’s two other matches Wednesday were close 8-6 losses. Jeremiah Layton (Fr., Brookhaven/Brookhaven) was defeated by Mesa’s Nicolas Romero in No. 6 singles. Duarte Mestre (Fr., Lisbon, Portugal/Escola Secundária Sebastiao e Silva) and Triston Hill (So., Perkinston/Stone) lost in No. 2 doubles to Coastal Alabama’s duo.
