Opening day action in the D’Iberville Thanksgiving Tournament got underway Monday, and first-day action featured a pair of games pitting “Southern Six” opponents facing off.

The two-day event tipped off with the Bay High girls slipping past West Harrison 36-25 to get things underway. Kayla Fricke tallied 15 points to lead the Lady Tigers while both Taniyah Lewis and Emmalee Kirkpatrick added six points apiece to the winning effort for head coach Kelton Thompson’s crew. West Harrions’s Jaylnn Applewhite poured in a game-high 16 points to pace the Lady Hurricanes.

After that first contest, four more games took place before the host D’Iberville boys team took on WHHS to close out first-day play. The Warriors nipped the Hurricanes 45-42 in an exciting affair.

Juan Santiago paced DHS with 13 points in the win, while Samad Lockhart added 11 points and Jaylen Johnson dropped in eight points to the winning effort. West Harrison got 11 points apiece from both Jazear Carter and Owen Reese.

In other action, in the penultimate game of the opening day the Ocean Springs boys pushed their record to 3-2 overall on the season with a 73-59 win over Tupelo. The Greyhounds got a big game from their dynamic one-two punch of Maddox Noblitt and Elijah Isom in the win over the Golden Wave, as Noblitt poured in a game-high 29 points including four 3-pointers and Isom added 19 points to the winning cause. The combo combined for 21 points in a 26-point second stanza for OSHS as the Greyhounds outscored Tupelo 26-15 in that period to take control of the game and head into halftime with a 41-28 lead.

Kaleb Bradley added 12 points for OSHS in the winning effort, with eight of those coming in the fourth frame when he sank six free throws to help keep the Golden Wave at bay.

The other two games on the first day of play saw Presbyterian Christian out of Hattiesburg notch a pair of wins in both a boys and a girls’ game over opponents from the Mississippi Gulf Coast as the Lady Bobcats bounced Ocean Springs 57-27 and the Bobcats bombed Bay High 72-22.
