POPLARVILLE, Miss. — Pearl River has named its Wildcats of the Week, and rodeo’s Kate Eiland (Kentwood, La.) and baseball’s Thomas Crabtree (Collierville, Tenn.) have earned the selections.

KATE EILAND
Eiland takes home the award after yet another week of dominance for the Pearl River rodeo team. The freshman helped the Wildcats take first place in their home rodeo with 375 total points — 125 more than the second-place team.

Eiland finished third in average in breakaway roping, adding a 2.6 second-run to advance to the short go and tacking on a three-second ride in the championship round. Eiland continued her fine showing by taking first place in goat tying following times of 7.6 and 7.0.

It has been an unreal freshman season for Eiland, who has one breakaway roping twice and goat tying three times this year.

THOMAS CRABTREE
Freshman pitcher Crabtree was electric in his lone start of the week. The Wildcats handed the right-hander the ball in a matchup with No. 12 Meridian, and he proceeded to throw a complete game, allowing just two runs on five hits and a walk. He struck out a new career-high 12 batters in the contest, helping the Wildcats earn an impressive 14-2 victory.

Crabtree has been electric as a freshman. Through 39 innings pitched, he holds a 3.00 ERA. He has struck out 56 batters and walked just 14. His WHIP stands at 1.26, and he holds a 5-1 record through eight starts.

UP NEXT
Baseball returns to action Tuesday for a 2/5 p.m. first pitch against Hinds. Rodeo hits the road April 4-6 for the Arkansas-Monticello rodeo.
