No. 11 Pearl River’s Avery Young named MACCC Player of the Week

POPLARVILLE, Miss. — After helping the No. 11 Pearl River women’s basketball team clinch a share of the 2023-24 MACCC Championship, Avery Young (Iota, La.) has been named the MACCC Player of the Week.

Young began the week with 10 points, four rebounds and two assists in a victory over Mississippi Delta. The sophomore guard stepped up her game when the Wildcats were playing for a championship on Thursday against Northeast. In the game, she scored a career-high 36 points on an incredible 13-for-17 showing from the floor. She knocked down 2 of 3 3-pointers she shot and went 8-for-9 from the free-throw line. Additionally, she added five rebounds, two steals and an assist in the game.

Young has been a crucial part of Pearl River’s success this season. Through 27 games, she is averaging 10.1 points, 3.8 assists, 2.9 rebounds and 1.4 steals per game.

Pearl River heads to Tougaloo on Thursday for the Region 23 Semifinals. Tipoff against 3-seed Southwest is set for 5 p.m.
