PERKINSTON — No. 12 Mississippi Gulf Coast handed No. 21 Copiah-Lincoln its first MACCC men’s tennis loss Friday.

The Bulldogs were convincing in an 8-1 win at the MGCCC Tennis Complex.

“The men looked fantastic from top to bottom,” Gulf Coast coach Sam Blackburn said. “We know Co-Lin always brings their best when they come play us. They always step up, but our guys stepped up even more.”

Gulf Coast stays unbeaten in the MACCC with a 4-0 mark.

The Bulldogs swept the three doubles points to seize control of the match. Gonzalo Cotter (Fr., Valencia, Spain/IVLA) got the singles courts off to the right start with a big win over Arne Sohmer at No. 1.

“Gonzalo won 6-3, 6-3 against one of the better players in the conference,” Blackburn said. “(Sohmer) had won the ITA Regional tournament in the fall, and he beat him pretty handily today. He looked great, and I was really happy about his performance.”

Co-Lin falls to 5-2, 3-1 MACCC.

Gulf Coast turns right around and plays Wallace State at the MGCCC Tennis Complex on Saturday. First serves are at 1 p.m.
