POPLARVILLE, Miss. — No. 9 Pearl River’s Cameron Kent (Brandon) was lights-out last week for the Wildcats, and his efforts have been recognized by the Mississippi Association of Community Colleges Conference as he was named Goalkeeper of the Week. The award makes two on the year for the shot-stopper.

With the selection, PRCC has swept the weekly awards as center forward Tiago Honorio Jr. (São Paulo, Brazil) was named MACCC Player of the Week.

The week was as impressive as it could be for the Brandon native. Pearl River played three matches against Northwest, Meridian and National Park — and Kent didn’t allow a single goal. In PRCC’s first game of the week at Northwest, Kent saved both shots that he faced in the 2-0 victory. The Wildcats then took on a talented Meridian squad, and Kent continued to shine. The Eagles fired 10 shots on goal throughout the contest, and he was there each time to make 10 saves. Finally, Pearl River matched up with National Park in its last contest of the week and the goalkeeper racked up six more saves without allowing a goal.

For the week, Kent played 270 minutes in goal, made 18 saves and earned three clean sheets. He has started 10 of PRCC’s 11 matches this year, making 61 saves. He has allowed 19 goals, the majority of which came against ranked opponents.

NEXT UP
The Wildcats remain at the PRCC Soccer Complex Friday for a 7 p.m. match against Holmes. The match will serve as PRCC’s Cayce Seal game. All proceeds will be donated to the Cayce Seal Memorial Scholarship Foundation.
