Both Pascagoula and Gulfport came up with 4-0 shutout wins in Class 6A play in Jackson County Tuesday night. Pascagoula celebrated senior night with a 4-0 shutout win over visiting Harrison Central.
The Class 6A interleague match-up was a defensive battle through most of the game, and an error by a Harrison Central outfielder gave Pascagoula a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the third.
In the bottom of the fifth inning, PHS found a spark offensively. Griffin Wells’ single loaded the bases for the Panthers. Sophomore Jaylon Parnell followed him up with a sacrifice fly to bring in a run. Brayden Scott knocked a two-RBI double to bring the Panther’s lead to 4-0.

And thanks to his outstanding work on the mound, Pascagoula maintained that lead for the remainder of the game.
Actually, the starting pitchers of both teams were impressive on the mound. Scott pitched a complete game in the winning effort. The Panther senior racked up 13 strikeouts with only one walk and five hits allowed in the shutout. Red Rebel junior, Tri Gaughf, pitched four and a half innings, recording eight strikeouts while only giving up four hits in the loss.
In the top of the first and second innings, Scott retired five straight batters for Pascagoula. Scott retired five straight batters again throughout the top of the fourth and fifth innings. Similarly, Gaughf retired seven straight through the bottom of the first, second, and third innings for the Red Rebels.
Offensively, Griffin Wells was consistent in this game for the Panthers, tallying three base hits, including a double, on three plate appearances and stealing a base. Pascagoula senior, Keilon Parnell, contributed as well, working a walk and adding a double in his three plate appearances while recording a stolen base.

The Panthers improve to 9-7 with their third straight win, as they look ahead to their last non-district game at Biloxi on Friday.
The Red Rebels fall to 6-10 on the year with Tuesday night’s loss. They will aim to get back in the win column with another non-district game at St. Martin Friday.

Speaking of St. Martin, visiting Gulfport sailed into western Jackson County and the Admirals rolled away with a 4-0 shutout win over the Yellow Jackets.
Gulfport moved to 7-5 overall with the win. Nate Edwards led the Admirals at the plate with a pair of hits and he scored a run, while Braxton Williams drove in a run.

Josh Lee recorded the complete game shutout performance on the hill for Gulfport to pick up the win, scattering six hits and striking out three. Caleb Lawrence took the loss for SMHS. Carter Bailey had a double for the Yellow Jackets at the plate.
