After both the Picayune girls and the Gulfports boys and girls teams competed in a one-day tournament to tip-off the current basketball season last week, both GHS and Picayune are hosting a day Thanksgiving Tournament in their respective gyms this week.
The action gets underway in both Kelly Wise Gym on the campus of Picayune Memorial High School as well as at Bert Jenkins Gym in Gulfport on Monday.

In Gulfport, the Admirals along with the Hancock Hawks as well as Madison-Ridgeland Acamedy and Heritage Academy all will compete for the boy’s title on Monday and Tuesday in the Admiral Thanksgiving Holiday Tournament.
On the girls’s side, the Lady Admirals along with the MRA girls, Hattiesburg and Northeast Lauderdale will all vie for the crown.
The games get underway Monday, and here is the schedule for the opening day:
Monday
3 p.m. — Hattiesburg girls vs. MRA
4:30 — Hancock (boys) vs. MRA
6:00 — Gulfport (girls) vs. Northeast Lauderdale
7:30 — Gulfport (boys) vs. Heritage
The action continues on Tuesday in the same time frame in the true tourney format, as winners meet winners with the titles on the line and the losers from Monday facing off in the consolation contests.
Both Gulfport squads are still 1-0 and haven’t seen any action after opening the season with wins in their own tip-off tourney. The Hancock boys come into the tourney on the heels of a big win over Pass Christian last week.

Meanwhile, in Pearl River County, Picayune is hosting a two-day tourney with set match-ups involving four games on Monday and three more on Tuesday. The affair features four boys teams in St. Stanislaus, Sumrall, West Jones and the host Maroon Tide, while the girls side of the bracket consists of Sumrall, Lumberton, West Jones, Davidson High out of Mobile and the host Lady Tide team.
Here is the schedule for both days:
Monday
3:00 P.M. — West Jone (girls) vs. Lumberton
4:30 — St. Stanislaus (boys) vs. Sumrall
6:00 — Picayune (girls) vs. Sumrall
7:30 — Picayune (boys) vs. West Jones
Tuesday😫
2:00 P.M. — Sumrall (girls) vs. Lumberton
3:30 — Picayune (girls) vs. Davidson
5:00 — Picayune (boys) vs. St. Stanislaus
This pair of two-day tourneys are a part of four of the same type of events taking place in the “Southern Six” leading up to Thanksgiving day on Thursday. In addition to Gulfport and Picayune, two-day events will also take place in both D’Iberville and Lucedale.

Overall, about 20 teams total in the 228Sports coverage area will be in basketball action this week in one of the four events.
