PERKINSTON — Danique Vermue and Brandon Cain have been named Bulldogs of the Week for Feb. 12-18.

Vermue, a freshman from ‘s-Heerenhoek, Netherlands, claimed four in a pair of season-opening wins for No. 12 Gulf Coast. She won a pair of No. 1 doubles matches with Angela Moreno, then won a match at No. 3 against No. 17 Itawamba singles and one at East Central.

Cain, a sophomore from Mobile, Ala., pitched 4.2 innings in a combined no-hitter for Gulf Coast in a 7-0 win at Nunez. He struck out three batters, combining with Cade Mattison to blank the Pelicans.

Also nominated:

Tytiana Buckley, a sophomore guard from Meridian, shot the lights out on the way to a 25-point night in a 63-57 win over East Central. She also had a 13-point, 11-rebound double-double in a 66-60 win at Coahoma. Buckley made 5-of-7 from behind the arc against ECCC and shot 60 percent from long range for the week.

Vicente Faria, a freshman from Lisbon, Portugal, won all four points in a 2-0 week for No. 12 Gulf Coast. He won two No. 1 singles matches with Gonzalo Cotter, and got wins at No. 2 singles against No. 17 Itawamba and No. 23 East Central. He also won MGCCC’s only point in a scrimmage at NCAA Division I Jacksonville State.

Landon Holliman, a freshman second baseman from Hattiesburg, batted .571 with a double and five RBI will playing in three games for Gulf Coast.

John Mark Mills, a freshman from Pontotoc, shot 1-under 70 on Tuesday to help No. 1 Gulf Coast rally to win the Lioneer Invitational in Gulf Shores, Ala. He finished second in the tournament, one shot back of the medalist, as the Bulldogs ralled to win by two shots.

Duran Parish, a freshman guard from Biloxi, averaged 26 points and five rebounds in a 1-1 week for Gulf Coast. He had 24 points and six boards in a 99-96 overtime win at Coahoma and helped lead a furious comeback that fell just short in a 92-89 loss to East Central. He scored 28 points and made 12-of-16 from the free-throw line.
