Bulldogs try to beat PRCC again Thursday

PERKINSTON — Archrival Pearl River comes to Dantzler Arena on Thursday, and Mississippi Gulf Coast will be trying to hand the Wildcats a second loss this season.

The teams met in the fall at Poplarville, with the Bulldogs handing PRCC its second loss. The Wildcats haven’t lost since and sit atop the MACCC men’s basketball standings.

  • MGCCC: 11-7/3-3 MACCC, T-5th place in conference
  • PRCC: 18-2/5-0 MACCC, 1st place in conference

Last Time Out

  • MGCCC lost 80-75 to Northeast Mississippi at Booneville on Monday.
  • PRCC beat Meridian 78-69 on Monday at Poplarville.

Previous Meeting

On Nov. 28, Gulf Coast beat then-No. 19 Pearl River 85-79 in Poplarville. Duran Parish had 24 points and five assists, and Omarion Smith had an 18-point, 14-rebound double-double.

Notes

  • Gulf Coast leads the MACCC in scoring (87.0 ppg), field-goal attempts (68.3), 3-pointer (10.2 per game), 3-point attempts (27.2 per game) and steals (12.2 spg). The Bulldogs are second in 3-point shooting (37.3 percent) and third in assists (18.2 apg).
  • John Davis (So., Pascagoula/Pascagoula) leads the MACCC in 3-point shootings (50.9 percent).
  • Omarion Smith (So., Atlanta Ga./Douglas County) is fourth in the conference in field-goal shooting (61.1 percent), eighth in blocks (25) and ninth in rebounding (7.9 rpg).
  • Jabbari Barry (Fr., Lake Charles La./Barbe) is second in the MACCC in 3-pointers made (58) and third in 3-point shooting (47.9 percent).
  • Duran Parish (Fr., Biloxi/Biloxi) is second in the conference in steals.

  • Monday, Feb. 12: at Coahoma, Clarksdale, 7:30 p.m.
  • Thursday, Feb. 15: vs. East Central, Perkinston, 7:30 p.m.
  • Tuesday, Feb. 20: at Hinds, Utica, 7:30 p.m.
