POPLARVILLE, Miss. — The MACCC Player of the Week award belongs to the No. 2 Pearl River baseball team for a fourth consecutive week.

After a blistering week at the plate, Caston Thompson (Jayess; Brookhaven Academy) is the conference’s selection. He joins Marshall Phillips (Hattiesburg; Sumrall) and two-time winner Hollis Porter (Hurley; East Central) as the Wildcats to win the offensive award. JT Schnoor (Pascagoula; Resurrection), JP Robertson (Madison; Germantown) and Thomas Crabtree (Collierville, Tenn.) have taken home Pitcher of the Week awards with Crabtree earning two.

Thompson helped lead Pearl River to a 4-0 week to break the program’s record for consecutive wins with 29. He finished his incredible week with a .727 batting average, a .750 on-base percentage and a 1.571 slugging percentage. He picked up two doubles and two homers over the course of the week, driving in 10 runs in the process. He also scored four runs and drew a walk.

The 6-foot-3 designated hitter has been a force at the plate for the Wildcats this season. He has featured in 28 games and hit his way to a .417 batting average with seven doubles, six home runs, 28 RBIs and 20 runs scored. He’s also showed off a good eye at the plate, drawing 15 walks.
